The Facts - Some 400 million tonnes of waste are produced
in the UK each year. Most waste currently ends up in landfill sites. It
is becoming increasingly difficult to find enough sites to keep up with
the growing demand. We are committed to dramatically reducing the amount
of landfill waste over the next 20 years. Communities can play a significant
role in helping to meet these targets.
Actions you could take:
- Avoid goods with excessive packaging
- Buy recycled goods
- Support your local charity shops
- Make use of local recycling facilities
- Develop an environmental plan for your community group
- Purchase garden composts made from green waste
