Government Task forces are set up in order to bring together officials
and often Ministers from across Government in order to generate action
on a particular issue. Task forces regularly involve the input of private
and voluntary sector workers who may have specific expertise on a subject.
The current sustainable development related task forces can be seen below:
- Sustainable
Tourism Working Group - formed to provide a joined-up Government
approach to sustainable tourism issues. This is in the context of the
UK Sustainable Development Strategy, and our WSSD commitment to work
towards more sustainable patterns of consumption and production.
- Sustainable Development Programme Board - a collection
of high ranking Government officials from key Departments. Meeting periodically
the Board was set up to ensure that the current UK government sustainable
development strategy was delivery focused. The Board continues to exist
with the purpose of monitoring the delivery of the strategy.
- Behaviour
Change Forum - An
informal cross-Government forum whose purpose is to exchange experience,
pool research and policy evaluation, disseminate research findings,
and promote common policy tools and new research.
Task forces/working groups no longer meeting:
- Sustainable
Buildings Task Group
- Sustainable Development Education Panel (see Department for
Education and Skills Sustainable Development Action
Plan)
- Sustainable
Development Task Force - bringing together Ministers across
Whitehall with colleagues from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland,
and some key stakeholders. The task force was established to help ensure
effective follow-up of the UK's WSSD
commitments, and to help ensure that the 2005 Sustainable Development
Strategy was focused on delivery.
- Sustainable
Procurement Task Force - The Sustainable Procurement Task
Force was established in May 2005, charged with drawing up an action
plan to bring about a step-change in sustainable public procurement
so that the UK is among the leaders in the EU by 2009. The action plan
was launched on 12 June 2006.
