Dialogues with China

The UK-China Sustainable Development Dialogue (SDD) was launched with China in November 2005.   A joint statement was signed between the UK Deputy Prime Minister at the time, John Prescott, and his Chinese counterpart State Councillor Tang Jiaxuan.

The China / UK workplan (PDF,162KB) for 2007/2008 sets out the activities to be taken forward under each of the four themes: sustainable consumption and production; natural resources management; sustainable urban development; and capacity building and governance for sustainable development.

China Task Force

The China Task Force was created in November 2003 at the request of the Deputy Prime Minister and since November 2007 has been chaired by the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Its membership is drawn from outside Government, from the business, academic and other sectors. The Task Force works to deepen relations and foster mutual understanding and further co-operation between the UK and China and its formal remit covers seven different themes including Sustainable Development and Climate Change.
