  • The percentage of working-age people who live in households where no-one works has fallen gradually since the mid 1990s, from 13.2 per cent in 1997 to 11.8 per cent in 2007.
  • The percentage of children living in working age households where no-one works has fallen in a similar way, from 18.8 per cent in 1997 to 15.9 per cent in 2007.
  • Data for 1996 and before are not strictly comparable but suggest a decline in workless households since the early nineties.
