  • Deaths from circulatory diseases and cancer (below 75 years) decreased by 45 and 20 per cent respectively between 1993-5 and 2004-6.  The decline in death rates is also reflected in deprived areas, but they remain higher than the England average: 109 compared with 84 people per 100,000 from circulatory diseases and 136 compared with 117 people per 100,000 from cancer.
  • The death rate from suicide and undetermined injury in England fell from 9.4 per 100,000 in 1993-5 to 8.3 in 2004-6.
