7. Road transport

  • Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from all road transport rose by 12 per cent between 1990 and 2006, compared with GDP growth of 48 per cent. (The next two supporting indicators show the emissions from private cars and heavy goods vehicles included in the total above).
  • By 2006 emissions of both nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulates (PM10) were respectively 60 per cent and 46 per cent lower than in 1990.
