Changes in sustainable development measures
since 1990 and 1999.

Indicators for protection of natural resources (NR) mainly cover wildlife and biodiversity, farming, land use, fish stocks, air pollution and rivers. 16 measures show improvement since 1999, 4 little or no change and 1 deterioration.

Those showing improvement since 1999 include river quality, farming management and emissions, land recycling, air pollution, and the impact of acidification from air pollution. Farmland, woodland and Sea bird populations, and area of sensitive habitats affected by nitrogen showed little or no change.

Wintering wetland bird populations have declined since 1999 (although still improved compared with 1990).
