  • In 2006-7 total household waste was highest in the North West at 544 kilograms per person.
  • Household waste was lowest in London at 451 kilograms per person.
  • London was the only region to see a reduction in total household waste per person between 1998-9 and 2006-7, a fall of 3 per cent).
  • The largest increase was seen in the West Midlands, at 9 per cent, compared with an overall increase for England of 6 per cent.
  • The proportion of household waste that was recycled ranged from 23 per cent in London to 37 per cent in the South West; the overall proportion recycled in England was 31 per cent.
