In 2006-7 total household waste was highest in the North West at 544 kilograms per person.
Household waste was lowest in London at 451 kilograms per person.
London was the only region to see a reduction in total household waste per person between 1998-9 and 2006-7, a fall of 3 per cent).
The largest increase was seen in the West Midlands, at 9 per cent, compared with an overall increase for England of 6 per cent.
The proportion of household waste that was recycled ranged from 23 per cent in London to 37 per cent in the South West; the overall proportion recycled in England was 31 per cent.
