• Over 1.3 million tonnes of nitrogen oxides (NO_x), almost three quarters of a million tonnes of sulphur dioxide (SO₂) and 127 thousand tonnes of particulates (PM₁₀) were emitted in England and Wales in 2004.
• Yorkshire and the Humber and the South East emitted the highest amounts of NO_x emissions of the regions, and Yorkshire and the Humber also emitted the highest amount of SO₂. The South East emitted the highest amount of PM₁₀.
