  • Over 1.3 million tonnes of nitrogen oxides (NOx), almost three quarters of a million tonnes of sulphur dioxide (SO2) and 127 thousand tonnes of particulates (PM10) were emitted in England and Wales in 2004.
  • Yorkshire and the Humber and the South East emitted the highest amounts of NOx emissions of the regions, and Yorkshire and the Humber also emitted the highest amount of SO2. The South East emitted the highest amount of PM10.
