Gross Value Added (GVA) per head, 1989 and 2005

- In 2005 London had the highest Gross Value Added (GVA, a measure of the economic contribution) per head at £24,075, followed by the South East (£20,375) and East of England (£18,933).
- The North East had the lowest, with a GVA per head of £14,048.
- The national average GVA in 2005 was £18,097 per person, more than twice what it was in 1989.
- In terms of regional GVA increases since 1989, London saw the greatest increase (136 per cent) followed by the South East (135 per cent); the North East and North West had the lowest increases (110 and 113 per cent respectively).
