  • In 2007, 75 per cent of working age people in England were in employment.
  • The South East had the largest regional proportion of working age people in employment, at 78.6 per cent in 2007, and London had the lowest figure (69.7 per cent).
  • The North East saw the greatest increase in employment of 5.3 percentage points and the East of England saw the least  with a 1.5 percentage point increase.
  • 78.9 per cent of working age males and 69.4 per cent of working age females were employed in 2007, up by 1.9 and 3.7 percentage points respectively since 1992.
  • The East of England had the highest regional proportion of working age males in work (82.8 per cent), whilst the North East had the lowest proportion (75.4 per cent).
  • For females, the South West had the highest employment rate (74.9 per cent) and London had the lowest (62.4 per cent).
