Young adults

16-18 year-olds not in employment, education or training, 1992 and 2006

  • In Spring 2006 on average in England 11 per cent of 16 to 18 year-olds were not in employment, education or training; this had decreased by 3 percentage points since 1992.
  • The North East and London had the highest regional proportion with 13 per cent each.
  • The South East had the lowest proportion with 9 per cent of young adults not in employment, education or training.
  • The proportion decreased for all regions between 1992 and 2006. except for the West Midlands and the South East where there was little change.
  • The greatest reduction was in the North West, where there was a 6 percentage point drop.
