  • In 2000-3 healthy life expectancy (based on self-assessment) in England stood at 69.0 years for males and 72.3 years for females.
  • The South East had the highest healthy life expectancy at 71.7 years for males and 74.8 years for females, followed by the South West (70.9 and 74.2 years) and Eastern (71.2 and 74.2 years) regions.
  • The lowest male and female healthy life expectancy was in the North East region at 65.6 and 69.2 years respectively.
