  • Across the whole of England the road accident casualty rate for all people was 450 per 100,000 population in 2006.
  • In 2006, 27,551 people were killed or seriously injured in road accidents in England, 10 per cent (2,779) of whom were children.
  • The number of deaths and serious injuries from road accidents decreased in all regions between 1993 and 2006, and the largest decreases were seen in the West Midlands (a 43 per cent decrease for all people and 58 per cent decrease for children).
