  • In England just under one third of dwellings failed to meet the 'Decent Homes' standard in 2003; just under 6.7 million homes in total.
  • The regions where the highest proportions failed to meet the standard were London (36 per cent) and the North West (34 per cent).
  • The regions with the lowest proportions of dwellings which failed to meet the 'Decent Homes' standard were the North East (23 per cent) and East of England and the East Midlands (27 per cent).
