Source: DCLG

Note that this indicator is different from the national indicator for 'Satisfaction in local area'. The regional version looks at resident overall satisfaction with the area in which they live, not satisfaction with the quality of the local environment.

  • 87 per cent of householders in England were satisfied with the characteristics of the area in which they lived in 2006-7, the same as in 1999-00.
  • The South West had the highest proportion of householders satisfied, 90 per cent, followed by the East Midlands with 89 per cent.
  • London had the lowest proportion of householders satisfied, though this was still 81 per cent.
  • There was little change in the regional proportions of householders satisfied between 1999-00 and 2006-7, the largest being an increase in satisfaction of 2.7 percentage points in the North East during this period.
