Source: BERR

  • Information on regional contributions to official development assistance given by the UK to overseas projects as presented in the national indicator is not available since the assistance is provided by central government.
  • Instead this indicator shows assistance received by the UK in the form of  European Union structural funds for the regions.
  • EU structural funds on a national level was broadly the same in 2000 (£1.10 billion) and 2006 (£1.07 billion).  The allocation of these funds between the regions between 2000 and 2006 remained broadly similar although the largest increase was in the East Midlands (£13 million) and the largest decrease was in the North West (£24 million).
  • However, the North West still received the largest share in total (£239 million), with the South East receiving the least (£37 million).
